Definition
爬山 is a separable verb (离合词). The verb 爬 and the object 山 can be separated by aspect markers (了, 过), measure words, or duration. For example: 爬过山 ('have climbed mountains'), 爬了一座山 ('climbed a mountain'). The object can also be modified: 爬很高的山 ('climb very high mountains').
