点歌 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to choose or request a song', most commonly used in karaoke (KTV) settings. It is composed of the verb 点 (to select/order) and the noun 歌 (song). When adding measure words, durations, or other objects, the two parts split: 点了一首歌 (diǎn le yì shǒu gē, 'ordered a song') or 点过两次歌 (diǎn guò liǎng cì gē, 'ordered songs twice').
