漠 (mò) is a bound morpheme — it cannot be used alone and always appears as part of a compound word. Its two main uses are: in words related to desert (e.g., 沙漠 shāmò 'desert'), and in words related to indifference or aloofness (e.g., 冷漠 lěngmò 'indifferent', 漠视 mòshì 'to ignore', and the idiom 漠不关心 mò bù guānxīn 'completely indifferent').
