漠然 (mò rán) describes an indifferent, detached attitude — someone who simply doesn't care or show interest. It differs from 冷漠 (lěng mò 'cold and indifferent'), which implies emotional coldness or hostility, and from 麻木 (má mù 'numb'), which suggests a loss of feeling from overexposure. 漠然 is more about aloofness than coldness or numbness.
