漆黑 (qīhēi) means 'pitch-black, completely dark' — it emphasizes total absence of light, stronger than 黑 (hēi 'black/dark') and 黑暗 (hēi'àn 'dark, lacking light'). Unlike 阴暗 (yīn'àn), which can describe a gloomy mood or overcast sky, 漆黑 is used only for literal, extreme darkness.
