Definition
混事 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning to go through the motions at work just to get by, without real effort or ambition. It carries a negative connotation — you're coasting, not contributing. The object 事 can split off when you add modifiers: 混口饭吃 ('scrape by'), 混了几年事 ('drifted along for a few years'). It's different from 工作 (neutral 'work') or 打工 ('work a job').
