Definition
涮 (shuàn) means to rinse something quickly or to cook thinly sliced ingredients briefly in boiling water (as in hot pot). Unlike 冲 (chōng) 'to rinse/flush' or 冲洗 (chōng xǐ) 'to wash thoroughly', 涮 implies a quick dip; 洗涤 (xǐ dí) is more formal/technical. It also has a colloquial sense 'to trick, fool'.
