Definition
消失 (xiāoshī) is the general verb for 'disappear, fade away' – something gradually or suddenly ceases to be visible or exist. 失踪 (shīzōng) is more specific, used for people or objects that go missing (lost, abducted). 绝迹 (juéjì) means to vanish completely or become extinct, with no trace left.
