Definition
济 (jǐ) is a bound form (bound root) that originally referred to the Ji River, an ancient waterway in Shandong. It appears in the names of cities such as 济南 (Jǐnán) and 济宁 (Jǐníng). Do not confuse with the common word 济 (jì) meaning 'to help' or 'to cross a river'.
