Definition
沾边儿 means 'to have a connection or relevance', but it is almost always used in the negative to say something is unrelated or way off — 不沾边儿 ('doesn't touch the edge') is the most common form. You can also hear it in affirmative questions ('这事儿跟你沾边儿吗?') or with 一点儿 ('沾一点儿边儿'), but the negative pattern is the default. It is very colloquial and often dismissed as 口语话.
