Definition
治国 means 'to administer a country' or 'to run a country'. It is a separable verb (离合词): the object 国 can split off from 治 when you insert result or potential complements (e.g. 治不了国 'cannot manage the country'), aspects (治好了国 'governed the country well'), or adverbials (治什么国 'what kind of governing'). In normal usage, 治国 is a formal, political term often used in discussions about leadership and statecraft.
