沟通 (gōu tōng) means 'to communicate' with an emphasis on two-way exchange that leads to mutual understanding, often used for interpersonal or organizational communication. It is more focused on achieving connection than 交流 (jiāo liú), which can be a broader exchange of ideas or even goods; and unlike 通信 (tōng xìn), it does not imply a specific medium like letters or phones.
