Definition
求情 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning to plead for mercy, leniency, or a favor from someone. The verb 求 takes an object 情, and measure words or other elements can be inserted in between, e.g. 求个情 (ask a favor) or 求过几次情 (have interceded several times). You typically specify the person you plead to using 向 or 跟: 向他求情 'plead with him'. It can be used in contexts of asking for forgiveness, reducing a punishment, or requesting a special consideration.
