段 (duàn) is a classifier for sections of time, text, road, or stages of a process. It differs from 节 (jié), which is used for segments of connected things like lessons, train cars, or sections of a whole. 段 emphasizes a stretch or part of a continuous whole, while 节 marks a natural division.
