Definition
残废 is a stative verb meaning 'disabled' or 'handicapped', but it is an older term that many people now consider offensive when referring to individuals with disabilities. The neutral, modern word is 残疾. In PRC slang, 残废 can also derogatorily refer to a short man. Use 残废 cautiously; in most formal or respectful contexts, 残疾 is preferred.
