Definition
榻 (tà) is a bound morpheme (不自由语素) meaning a long, narrow couch or bed, often used in literary or formal compounds. It cannot stand alone as a word in modern Chinese; you will see it in words like 下榻 ('to stay overnight', lit. 'descend from the couch') and 卧榻 ('bed, couch'). The figurative sense of 'lodging' appears only in these compounds.
