楔 is a bound morpheme (黏着语素) that appears in compound words like 楔子 (xiēzi, wedge or prologue), 楔形 (xiēxíng, wedge-shaped; cuneiform), and 楔入 (xiērù, to wedge into). It carries the core meaning of something wedge-shaped or used to insert/force in. You cannot use 楔 alone as a word; it must be combined with other characters.
