检点 has two main uses. Literally, it means 'to inspect or check carefully' (e.g. 检点行李 'check luggage'). Figuratively, it means 'to be cautious and restrained in one's speech and behavior' — this sense is most often used in the negative 不检点 to describe improper or indiscreet conduct (e.g. 行为不检点 'behavior is not proper'). The figurative use is a stative verb and carries a moral or social judgment.
