Definition
格格 (gēge) is a Manchu loanword that originally referred to the daughter of a Manchu noble or emperor during the Qing dynasty — roughly equivalent to 'princess' but with a specific ethnic and historical frame. In modern Chinese, it's used in historical dramas and novels to refer to Qing princesses or young Manchu noblewomen. It is NOT the same as 哥哥 (gēge, 'older brother'), which has a different tone and meaning.
