Definition
柯 is a bound morpheme (b.f.) that cannot stand alone as a word. It appears most commonly as a surname (e.g., 柯南, Kē Nán) and in literary compounds meaning 'branch' (e.g., 枝柯 zhīkē 'tree branches'). It is also used in transliterations of foreign names (e.g., 柯达 Kēdá 'Kodak'). As a bound form, it always attaches to another morpheme to form a word.
