Definition
某 (mǒu) is used before a noun to indicate a specific person, thing, time, or place that the speaker chooses not to name — 'a certain,' 'such-and-such.' Unlike 有些 (yǒu xiē) or 有的 (yǒu de), which mean 'some (of a group)' and imply an indefinite part, 某 singles out an identifiable but deliberately unnamed referent. It can also follow a surname (e.g., 张某人) to refer to a specific person without naming them fully.
