Definition
林木 refers collectively to trees growing in a forested area — it can mean the forest itself (a wooded landscape) or the individual trees of the forest. In forestry contexts, it often emphasizes the trees as natural resources. Unlike 森林 (sēn lín) which always means the forest as a whole, 林木 can also be used to talk about the trees themselves.
