Definition
朝鲜 is the Chinese name for Korea, but in modern usage it most often refers specifically to North Korea (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea). Historically, it refers to the Joseon dynasty and the Korean Peninsula as a whole. When you need to specify South Korea, use 韩国 (Hánguó). The word carries political and cultural weight, so context is important.
