Definition
替班 is a separable verb-object compound meaning 'to work someone else's shift temporarily' — you step in for a coworker who is absent. It splits like a standard 离合词: you can insert a person or measure word between 替 and 班, e.g. 替他的班 ('fill in his shift'). The object 班 never follows the whole verb; you say 我替他班, not 我替班他.
