Definition
更替 means to replace or change, but with a strong implication of alternation, succession, or cyclical rotation — unlike 替换 (one-to-one swap) or 代替 (substitute for). It's commonly used for seasonal changes (季节更替), personnel rotations (人事更替), or generational shifts. The verb can be used intransitively (春季和夏季互相更替) or with a direct object (更替工作人员).
