晚上 (wǎnshang) is the everyday word for "evening" – the period after dark, roughly 6pm until bedtime. 夜晚 (yèwǎn) also means "night" but is more formal or literary. 傍晚 (bàngwǎn) refers specifically to dusk (around sunset), not the whole evening.
