Definition
晔 (yè) is a bound form (b.f.) meaning 'bright, brilliant' in literary and classical Chinese. It cannot be used alone as a word; you must combine it with other characters in compounds like 晔晔 (yèyè, brilliant shining) or 煜晔 (yùyè, radiating brightness). It also appears in personal names. In modern daily speech, you would not use 晔 alone — use 亮, 光, or 明亮 instead.
