Definition
显而易见 (xiǎn ér yì jiàn) is a formal idiom meaning 'obvious, self-evident' — it describes a fact or conclusion so clear that no argument is needed. It is stronger and more literary than 显然 (xiǎn rán), which is a plain adjective for 'obvious'. Unlike 明明 (míng míng) or 分明 (fēn míng), which emphasize a contradiction between obvious facts and someone's behavior, 显而易见 simply states the obviousness of a situation.
