Definition
This four-character idiom (成语) comes from a Tang-dynasty poem by Meng Jiao describing the elation of passing the imperial exam. Today it means to be riding high — feeling proud and satisfied after a major success, often in one's career or personal life. It's used as a predicate or adverbial phrase and cannot be split or conjugated.
