Definition
旁人 (páng rén) means 'other people, bystanders' and often implies people who are not directly involved or are just on the sidelines. It is more formal and literary than the everyday 别人 (bié rén). 他人 (tā rén) is similarly formal but more general; 人家 (rén jia) is colloquial and can sound softer or contrastive.
