Definition
摆摊 is a verb-object compound (离合词) that literally means 'set up a stall'. When you want to add a measure word, duration, or object, the two syllables split: you can 摆了一个摊 ('set up a stall'), 摆了半年摊 ('ran a stall for half a year'). The first part 摆 carries the verb, the second part 摊 is the object. Unlike a regular verb, you cannot directly add a number or duration after the full word — you must split it.
