Definition
搭界 is a separable verb (离合词) with two distinct uses. Literally it means 'to border on' or 'to be adjacent to' (used for geographic areas). Colloquially it means 'to have connections or dealings with someone' — almost always used in the negative (不搭界) to say 'have nothing to do with' or 'not involved'. When splitting, the object or negation goes between 搭 and 界, e.g. 不搭什么界 ('not really connected').
