推选 (tuī xuǎn) means 'to elect' with an emphasis on the process of nominating (推) and then selecting (选) someone for a position. It is more specific than the general 选 (xuǎn 'choose/elect') and less formal than the noun-like 选举 (xuǎn jǔ 'election process'). Use 推选 when the group discusses, nominates, and votes on a candidate.
