Definition
探路 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to explore the way' or 'to scout ahead'. The verb 探 and the object 路 can be split to insert a measure word, duration, or complement, e.g. 探过一次路 ('scouted the way once'). The object 路 can also be modified, e.g. 探一条新路 ('scout a new path').
