Definition
掌勺 (v.o.) means to work as the head chef or to be in charge of cooking in a professional kitchen. As a separable verb (离合词), the verb 掌 and object 勺 can split: you can insert a measure word or aspect marker between them, e.g. 掌过勺 ('have been a chef once') or 掌了十年勺 ('have been a chef for ten years').
