Definition
换药 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to change a dressing or bandage on a wound'. The verb 换 and the object 药 can split when you need to insert a measure word, duration, or complement between them — for example, 换了一次药 ('changed the dressing once') or 换了药 ('changed the dressing'). You cannot put an object after 换药 directly; instead, use 给 + person + 换药 ('change someone's dressing').
