挑食 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to be a picky eater'. You can split the two syllables to insert other elements: for example, 挑什么食 ('picky about what food') or 挑了一辈子食 ('been picky all one's life'). It is used when someone refuses many foods and only eats a few specific ones.
