Definition
拨通 means 'to get through (by phone)', combining 拨 (dial) with the resultative complement 通 (through/unblocked). It's commonly used in the pattern 拨通电话 (get through on the phone). You can also separate it with 得/不 to form the potential complement: 拨得通 (can get through) and 拨不通 (cannot get through). This is a solidly transitive verb that takes the person being called as an indirect object introduced by 给, or directly as the phone number/phone.
