拜年 means 'to pay a New Year visit'—it is the only visit word tied to the Lunar New Year. While 拜访, 拜见, and 拜会 can be used for formal visits anytime, 拜年 is reserved for the Spring Festival. It is commonly used with 给 (给长辈拜年) and can be separated (拜了个年).
