拚命 (pàn mìng) is a separable verb (离合词) meaning either to physically risk one's life or to go all out in a figurative sense. It is more commonly pronounced pīn mìng (拼命) in standard Mandarin, but pàn mìng is a valid variant. As a 离合词, the verb 拚 and the object 命 can be split to insert aspect markers like 了, 过, or quantity; for example, 拚了命 (pàn le mìng) 'risked one's life' or 'went all out'.
