拍掌 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to clap one's hands' or 'to applaud'. The verb 拍 and the object 掌 can be split when inserting measure words, duration, or other elements, e.g., 拍了一次掌 ('clapped once'). It is similar to 鼓掌 but more literal and less common in formal writing.
