Definition
拈 describes a precise way of picking something up using just the tips of the thumb and one or two fingers — a pincer-like grip. It's used for small, delicate objects (like a needle, a flower petal, or a sesame seed) and carries a gentle, careful nuance. You won't use it for picking up a book or a bowl; that's 拿 (ná), which involves the whole hand.
