Definition
拂 is a formal verb with several related meanings: it can mean 'to brush lightly' or 'to flick', as in brushing away dust, and also 'to go against' or 'to defy', as in 拂逆. However, note that the standard pronunciation for all these senses is actually 'fú'; the pinyin 'bì' given here is rare and normally only appears in the compound 拂士 (bìshì) meaning 'a frank official'. Use 'fú' for everyday speech and writing.
