Definition
报仇 (bào chóu) is a separable verb-object compound (离合词: 报…仇) meaning 'to take revenge' for a serious wrong or injustice. In contrast, 报复 (bào fù) is a general verb for 'to retaliate' and can apply to both serious and petty grievances. Unlike 报 (bào) alone, 报仇 explicitly includes the hatred (仇) behind the act.
