Definition
投球 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to shoot a ball' — most commonly in basketball. The verb 投 ('to throw/shoot') and the noun 球 ('ball') can split when inserting measure words, complements, or duration: 投了一个球 ('shot a ball'), 投过三次球 ('shot three times'). You can also add a target after 投 using 进: 投进球 ('shoot the ball into the basket').
