Definition
抑制 (yìzhì) is a neutral, broad verb meaning 'to suppress, inhibit, keep down' — used for emotions, biological processes, economic indicators, etc. It is less forceful than 压制 (yāzhì, to stifle/crush) and less emotional than 压抑 (yāyì, to repress feelings). 遏制 (èzhì) focuses on containing/checking a trend, while 取缔 (qǔdì) is official banning.
