Definition
托 (tuō) has two main meanings: physically supporting something with your hand (托着脸 'support one's face in one's hands'), and entrusting someone with a task (托他带信 'entrust him with a letter'). As a noun it means a support or stand. It is different from 举 (jǔ 'lift, raise'), which involves upward motion, and from 凭借 (píngjiè 'rely on'), which is abstract reliance, not physical support.
