Definition
打击 (dǎ jī) has three main senses: physical hitting, official crackdowns (e.g., on crime), and discouragement (morale). Unlike 冲击 (chōng jī, battering/impact) or 撞击 (zhuàng jī, forceful ramming), 打击 is used for both literal strikes and figurative dampening. For discouragement, 泼冷水 (pō lěng shuǐ) is a colloquial phrase, while 挫折 (cuò zhé) focuses on frustrating progress; for crackdowns, 取缔 (qǔ dì) means to ban/suppress by order.
