手艺 (shǒu yì) refers to a manual craft or trade learned through practice, emphasizing a person's skill and workmanship. It is more personal than 工艺 (gōng yì 'craft/technology'), which often describes industrial processes, and more specific to a person's trade than 手工 (shǒu gōng 'handicraft'), which focuses on the method of making by hand. 技艺 (jì yì) is a more formal term for artistry.
