感 (gǎn) is a suffix that attaches to a noun or adjective to form an abstract noun meaning 'sense of ∼' or 'feeling of ∼', like 安全感 (sense of security). Unlike the standalone words 感觉 (gǎnjué, 'feeling, sensation') and 感受 (gǎnshòu, 'feeling, experience'), 感 cannot be used alone; it must be attached to another character. Use 感觉 for a general feeling or physical sensation, and 感受 for a deeper personal experience.
